INCIDENT: Ingatestone MCB, Essex 18.09.08

A lorry was driven through a closed MCB crossing in Essex, smashing the barriers.

British Transport Police were called to the incident at Ingatestone. The lorry driver and that of another vehicle involved were spoken to.

Rail services were delayed but no train was involved in the incident itself.

INQUEST: Swainsthorpe AHB 2007

A verdict of accidental death has been recorded by the Norwich coroner at the inquest of a car driver killed at Swainsthorpe AHB in March 2007.

John White died when a One Railway passenger express hit his stationary Vauxhall Astra on the crossing.

The crossing is the site of a suicide in 2005 when a driver parked his car on the crossing in the path of an approaching train.

INCIDENT: Smiths Lower Farm UWC+T , Welshpool, 10.09.08

A passenger train collided with a lorry on a user worked crossing in Wales.

The 1033 BST Arriva service from Birmingham New Street to Aberystwyth collided with the rear of the lorry. No injuries were reported and the train did not derail.

It is believed that the lorry driver failed to telephone the signaller for permission to cross.
