UPDATE: Croxton (aka Kilverstone Heath)

Problems with Croxton crossing had been reported to the police and Network Rail several times since August, it has emerged.

The latest was on Friday, four days before the derailment, when a concerned driver called 999 to report an obstruction on the crossing. Stan Edwards, from Ann's Cars at Watton, said that he needed to drive around a raised block on the crossing to avoid damaging his vehicle. The police informed Network Rail, who confirmed that they sent an engineer out to inspect the crossing that day.

Minutes before the derailment on Tuesday 12th September, a car driven by Jason Lange struck a block on the crossing and crashed into a field.
